IBM NS1 Connect is a managed authoritative DNS and traffic-steering service. It can direct users across data centres, cloud regions, or multiple CDNs using DNS decisions and monitoring data. It does not cache or deliver site content itself, so it should be evaluated as a DNS and MultiCDN control layer rather than as a CDN replacement.

Network & Architecture

IBM documents NS1 Connect as a global anycast managed DNS service with traffic steering. DNS decisions can direct users to data centres, cloud regions, or CDNs. The DNS network is not a content cache, and its points of presence should not be presented as CDN edge locations.

Pricing

IBM publishes NS1 Connect plan and add-on information. Pricing depends on the selected DNS plan, query volume, traffic-steering needs, and optional services. No CDN egress rate is listed because NS1 Connect does not deliver cached content.

Integrations & DevEx

IBM publishes product documentation and APIs for NS1 Connect. Integrations should be evaluated as DNS, monitoring, and traffic-steering connections. The selected CDNs retain their own configuration, purge, logging, and origin integrations.

When it fits

  • A team needs authoritative DNS and traffic steering across more than one delivery endpoint.
  • Existing CDNs or origins will continue to provide caching and content delivery.
  • Operations can monitor DNS decisions separately from CDN delivery performance.

When it doesn’t

  • The requirement is a CDN that stores and serves cached content.
  • The project needs one product to provide edge caching, purge, and CDN security controls.
  • The team cannot operate DNS steering and delivery-provider configuration as separate layers.
