What’s included?

Split traffic between regions

Percentages must total 100%. The same split applies to bytes and requests. CloudFront charges by serving edge location; this is an approximation. Shared free allowances are allocated proportionally.

Origin and optional services

Paid tiers start with this workload; estimates do not include other account traffic. Enter your own effective rates after origin allowances. Reads use request misses; egress uses byte fill. Functions assume one invocation per viewer request. Zero leaves an extra out of the estimate; it does not mean your origin is free.

Compare a quote you received

This is your quote, not a published provider price. Use an effective rate for the selected traffic mix; tiers, included usage and commitments need to be reflected in your inputs. Sharing a scenario includes your quote details.

Presets are starting assumptions, not measured traffic. Video assumes one rendition and segment GETs; playlists, retries and extra audio tracks add requests. Fill is a byte ratio, not a request cache-hit rate. GB = 1 billion bytes; Google bills GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes; CloudFront estimates use binary GB as a billing assumption.

Overview

A former name for the current service

Incapsula is the former name of Imperva’s cloud website-security and delivery platform. New deployments should use current Imperva documentation, product scope and commercial terms.

What it does

The platform acts as a proxy between visitors and the origin to cache content, apply web application policies and improve website delivery. Load balancing and optional security services extend that role.

Read the name in context

Incapsula remains in maintained integration names, including the Terraform provider. This page keeps that legacy name discoverable without presenting a separate modern Incapsula tariff or network.

Use the shared Imperva network

Current deployments use Imperva’s delivery network, rather than a separately marketed Incapsula footprint. The published network spans APAC, the Americas and EMEA with 60+ PoPs and over 13 Tbps of capacity.

Current platform controls

The feature table describes the current Imperva service behind this former product name. Confirm the products and licenses included in your contract.

  • Configure static/smart caching, custom keys, tags and targeted purge.
  • Enable background stale-content refresh and temporary unavailable-origin responses when appropriate.
  • Add Cache Shield under the required FlexProtect license.
  • Use Cloud WAF built-in rules, plus the selected bot and DDoS services.

Transport and visibility

Current documentation supports TLS 1.3, HTTP/2 and WebSocket upgrades. WebSocket messages pass through without Cloud WAF inspection after the handshake. Image compression is documented; native resize/conversion and HTTP/3 need confirmation.

Traffic dashboards are realtime. Access event files can arrive within ten minutes, and security events in roughly three to five minutes. Rate counters operate per proxy and can pass a threshold before enforcement; neither feature is a strict realtime global control.

Specialized workloads

Pricing

Use current Imperva terms

Obtain a quote for the delivery, Cloud WAF and optional products you need. Get a current quote rather than budgeting from the old free, $59 or $299 plans. A trial is not an ongoing free tier.

Calculate from your quote

Use quoted USD bandwidth and request rates, then add fixed subscription and service charges in advanced settings. Convert other currencies to USD before entering rates and account separately for origin egress. Compare this as the Imperva service, rather than two independently priced providers.

Developer tools

Maintained automation

Imperva maintains the Incapsula Terraform provider for site provisioning and configuration. Review its resource coverage and account permissions; the legacy name remains valid even as product branding changes.

Current APIs and logs

Use the Imperva APIs for cache, policy, certificate and usage controls. Service-specific SIEM exports support S3, Splunk HEC or API retrieval. Plan for delayed files and destination-specific settings.

Existing deployments

Review DNS onboarding, origin access rules, certificates and contracted features before changing a legacy setup. With Cache Shield, revise per-IP origin limits because requests may concentrate through a shield.

History

Origin and ownership

Incapsula was a newly formed company when Imperva obtained majority ownership in a November 2009 technology-license transaction. Imperva introduced the cloud offering in 2011 and acquired the remaining ownership on March 20, 2014.

Product naming

By 2019, Imperva described Cloud WAF as formerly Incapsula. Imperva continued the cloud service under its own product name. Thales later completed its acquisition of Imperva in December 2023.
