What’s included?

Estimates cover cacheable content. Origin and optional services are added only when you enter their rates. Plans differ in features and coverage; check their terms before buying.

Split traffic between regions

Percentages must total 100%. The same split applies to bytes and requests. CloudFront charges by serving edge location; this is an approximation. Shared free allowances are allocated proportionally.

Origin and optional services

Paid tiers start with this workload; estimates do not include other account traffic. Enter your own effective rates after origin allowances. Reads use request misses; egress uses byte fill. Functions assume one invocation per viewer request. Zero leaves an extra out of the estimate; it does not mean your origin is free.

Compare a quote you received

This is your quote, not a published provider price. Use an effective rate for the selected traffic mix; tiers, included usage and commitments need to be reflected in your inputs. Sharing a scenario includes your quote details.

Presets are starting assumptions, not measured traffic. Video assumes one rendition and segment GETs; playlists, retries and extra audio tracks add requests. Fill is a byte ratio, not a request cache-hit rate. GB = 1 billion bytes; Google bills GiB = 1,073,741,824 bytes; CloudFront estimates use binary GB as a billing assumption.

Overview

Citrix is part of Cloud Software Group. Its NetScaler products provide load balancing and application security in on-premises, cloud and hybrid deployments. They are appliances or software components operated in the customer’s application path.

This listing covers that application-delivery scope. The former ITM/NEM steering service has its own published support lifecycle; it does not define the availability of current NetScaler ADC products.

Network

NetScaler ADC can be deployed in customer-controlled on-premises and cloud environments. These are places where you deploy the ADC, rather than a managed public CDN cache network.

Confirm the form factor, licensed throughput and actual application path when assessing coverage.

NetScaler capabilities depend on the form factor, release, license and configuration:

  • HTTP/3/QUIC and TLS 1.3 policies, with transport-specific constraints.
  • WebSocket forwarding configured through HTTP profiles.
  • In-memory integrated caching and appliance invalidation policies.
  • Application firewall, bot detection and rate-limiting controls.
  • Front-end image/browser optimization with an Advanced or Premium license.

WAF/security events can be sent to external syslog. This is different from a promise of full CDN request-log streaming. Protection on the appliance does not guarantee unlimited DDoS absorption on the public network.

Pricing

NetScaler uses software subscriptions with licensed capacity and instance allowances. Hardware is purchased separately; cloud deployment and network costs also need to be budgeted. Obtain a quote for the required software, throughput, support and security options.

CPX Express is a free developer edition for on-premises/cloud deployments with community support and a documented 10 Mbps limit. Commercial CPX has separate licensing. It is not a recurring free CDN bandwidth allowance.

The calculator accepts supplied delivery rates, but a per-GB result cannot represent ADC licensing and infrastructure costs on its own.

Developer tools

NITRO exposes REST configuration and monitoring interfaces. NetScaler publishes SDKs and an official Terraform provider for supported resources such as load balancing, TLS, GSLB and WAF. Ansible is another documented automation option.

Match resource coverage to the chosen appliance or software release. Configure persistent changes, credentials, certificates and logging explicitly; deploying a containerized ADC does not make it a viewer-request function runtime.

When it fits

  • Hybrid applications that need a customer-controlled load-balancing or security layer.
  • Teams with operational ownership of appliance/software deployments and capacity planning.
  • Infrastructure-as-code workflows using the supported APIs and Terraform resources.

Before you choose

NetScaler needs infrastructure and configuration in your application path. It is a different purchase from a managed public CDN. Check the appliance or software license for the required security and optimization features, and use separate services for media processing.

History

Citrix was founded in 1989 and publishes its corporate headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. Citrix and TIBCO combined under Cloud Software Group in 2022.

The Citrix and NetScaler product families have different deployment and licensing arrangements. Use the selected NetScaler product’s current licensing and support dates when planning a deployment.
